A couple of weekends ago, my husband and I took our daughter to the Gasparilla Children's parade. It's an annual event that takes place in January and runs through February with all kinds of different events. It's like Mardi Gras but with a pirate spin and people from all over come out to enjoy the booty.
Here's our little one with all the beads we caught and a new set of shades.
Here's a float throwing beads. Why is it that we get so excited to catch these little cheap necklaces?
Our little gal enjoying the parade from the best seat in the house!
You can't see it, but she's eyeballing a dog dressed like a pirate.
The official pirate ship that "takes over the city" during Gasparilla.

I couldn't help but add this last one so you could see how much the locals get into the pirate invasion. Many homes will decorate their front doors with super gaudy wreaths, like this one, in honor of Gasparilla.

Looks like fun! We will have to make a family trip over to catch it sometime.
